Explore the Circle Tour in West Michigan

In west Michigan, the Lake Michigan Circle Tour heads north out of downtown Muskegon, following M-120 to North Muskegon and into highway US-31. The LMCT follows US-31 for ten miles. Take exit 128 near Whitehall and turn onto Colby Street headed west towards downtown Whitehall. The LMCT then turns right after 1.5 miles onto Thompson Street, travels over White Lake, and then turns right onto Water Street (old US-31) through downtown Montague. After two miles, turn right onto Fruitvale Road and get back onto US-31 headed north.

After 27 miles going north on US-31, take exit 154 to travel through downtown Pentwater. After passing through downtown Pentwater, continue on Hancock Street, which turns into Oceana Drive, for four miles. Reenter highway US-31 at exit 158.

Continue on US-31 for 12 miles, where the freeway ends near Ludington. The LMCT turns east into US-10 toward Scottville. Head 4.5 miles on US-10 and then turn left onto US-31 headed north toward Manistee.

Hamlin Lake

The city of Scottville is a small community in the heart of Mason County, approximately eight miles east of Ludington and Lake Michigan. Scottville is home to West Shore Community College, the Western Michigan Old Engine Club and the world famous Scottville Clown Band. The Pere Marquette River (locally called "PM River") located in portions of Lake, Mason, Newaygo and Oceana counties, the Pere Marquette River system drains an area of approximately 740 square miles. Roughly 53 percent of the watershed is in Lake County. The mainstream starts at the confluence of the Middle Branch and Little South Branch, known as the "Forks" and flows in a westerly direction for approximately 66 miles past the communities of Baldwin, Branch, Walhalla, Custer and Scottville to its mouth at Pere Marquette Lake, just south of the City of Ludington, Michigan.
